The Parable of the Sower
I love the month of December for many reasons. I love getting together with family, the great food, the nip in the air, the lights, and all of the wonderful memories that are created.
I also love it because business usually slows down a little. Rather than just taking even more time off, I take it as opportunity to prepare for the next year. It’s really the Season for Sowing. It’s the season to be thinking and planning and getting everything in place to make a GREAT START into the next year. All the top earners do this. They have a mentality that allows them to see their business as a constant opportunity.
In the following audio Jim Rohn explains how the Law of Sowing and Reaping is so very clearly played out in growing a Network Marketing Business. It is the thorough understanding of how it works that enables us to discipline our disappointment and keep sowing, and ultimately succeed in Network Marketing.
The story Jim tells comes from the book of Mark in the Bible.
Mark, Chapter 4, Verses 1-9
1Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge. 2He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said: 3“Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times.”
9Then Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
It’s a little known fact that Jim Rohn turned his life around then he was 25 years old via the vehicle of his network marketing business. His sponsor was Mr Earl Schoaff. They called him “The Millionaire Maker”. Mr J. Earl Schoaff took Jim Rohn from broke and destitute to a millionaire in just 6 years.
But for now, here’s the late and legendary Jim Rohn telling us about the the Biblical story of the sower as only he can tell it.
The Sower Was Ambitious and He Had Excellent Seed
The sower is you. The sower is a network marketer with a good product. He was tireless and sowed seed. Yet not all of the seed took root.
#1 The Birds Got Some Of The Seed
John is supposed to come to a meeting but he doesn’t show up. John was eaten by the birds. Someone got to him before the meeting. When the birds get your seed you have two options:
1. You can Chase the Birds
If you decide to chase the birds, you leave the field. You take yourself out of production. You lose.
2. Keep on sowing.
If you decide to keep on sowing like the sower did, you will have success.
It’s disheartening when the birds get your seed, but you just have to learn to say, “Isn’t that interesting.” Don’t try to change things or even figure them out, just accept it for what it is.
The Sower KEPT ON SOWING
If you keep sowing, you’ll sow more than the birds can get.
#3 Some Seed Falls on Rocky Ground
This time the seed starts to grow. But the first hot day, it withers and dies. John starts and then misses the second meeting. The hot weather got to John. It’s not of your making. And you say…. “Isn’t that interesting.” Why??? Mr Rohn tells us “not to take that class.”
#4 Some seed falls on thorny ground
Little distractions, little thorns will get to some of your seeds. That’s just the way it is. Don’t try to figure it out, just accept it as the way it is. People will let little things keep them out of big opportunities.
#5 The Sower Keeps on Sowing the Seed
And some of it falls on fertile ground. It always will if you keep on sowing.
THE LAW OF AVERAGES
Some of the seed yielded a 30% return, some 60% and some 100%. Don’t spend your time trying to get the 30 percenters to be 100 percenters.
