5 Keys To A Successful Home Based Business

Starting and running a successful home based business isn’t easy. There’s over 8000 new home based businesses a day in the United States alone. Ensuring that yours is one that overcomes the odds and survives the first year takes a lot of work, a little luck and some tricks of the trade that I’m about to share with you.
There’s 5 Keys. Pay attention to these important aspects of your business and your chances for success will skyrocket.
Watch Your Cash Flow
Poor cash flow is the cause of death of many a business. Home based businesses are no exception. You should have some cushion money in the bank before you start. The amount will vary but it should be an amount that you’re comfortable with.
Watch your expenditures carefully. You should be able to run a complete online business for under $100 a month. That amount of overhead should take you well past the $5,000 a month mark with the same $100 a month in overhead.
Advertise For Free Online
There are dozens of ways to market yourself and your business online FOR FREE. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on advertising to have a very successful online business. Blogs are a tremendous way to promote your knowledge of your business and your product. Social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, BetterNetworker are some of the best free advertising sources on the internet. Article Marketing is a little-known strategy to drive massive traffic to your website or capture pages.
There’s a plethora of free training available online for all of these strategies and more. I have links to some of the best.
WORK Your Business Like a Business
I know this sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised at how many people treat their business like a hobby. They get around to it when they have nothing else to do. If you’re serious about being successful in ANY BUSINESS, it requires doing a few simple disciplines everyday. With that daily discipline will come great rewards in the form of income, friendships, and great personal development.
Seek Out A Mentor
If you’ve been working at a job most of you life you like have an amazing array of job skills from that experience. You probably don’t have any business skills. Just like your job skills, those come from both training and repetitive practice. Give yourself time to learn and find someone to learn from.
If you’re going into network marketing, take the time to interview your sponsor to be sure they have the experience and skills necessary to help you become successful.
Look At The Long View
Don’t get sucked into these stories about people who make $16,786 in SIX WEEKS, or HOW I MADE $232,657 MY FIRST YEAR ONLINE. It doesn’t happen like that. Think in terms of a year or two before you make any real money at this business. Sure, you might be one of the exceptions and make money much faster than that, but don’t let that kind of timeline shatter your resolve if you don’t get there that fast.
Consider your learning curve especially if you have little or no business experience. Your first few months is just learning business skills such as marketing, prospecting, writing copy, building relationships and the basics of websites, autoresponders and capture pages.
Keep your focus clear. Keep your view on the big picture. And keep plugging away not matter what. Remember you can’t really fail, you can only quit.
